Making pancakes the Yes Mom way

January 21st, 2013

Yes, we can have pancakes for breakfast, and yes, you can help me. You stir the dry ingredients, because that is the easy and not messy part. Then you can go play a video game while I make pancakes, because today, I am the Yes Mom.

Well, yes, you can stir the batter, too. And you can oil the pan with the little pastry brush that came with your chef’s kit, and put your apron on. Yes, you can flip the pancakes, and I will not grab the spatula and take over when the half-cooked pancakes are slippery and hard to pick up, landing on the sides of the pan and in danger of scorching on the bottom.

Because today, I am the Yes Mom.

Yes, you can pour the next batch, though that is the messiest part of all, and it is hard to drop the batter evenly and quickly, and the pancakes won’t be perfect circles.

They are perfect the way they are, and so are you. And though I won’t do it perfectly, and I will mess up lots, I will try to show how much I cherish this time with you, all day long.

Because today, I am the Yes Mom.

The Yes Mom is a post category to capture fun things we do as a family (like making pancakes with kids). From time to time, our fun may be sponsored. When it is, I’ll let you know

this past month, I’ve seen how important memories are. I want my children to have the kind of memories that come from a YES mom.

This series inspires me, I carry it in my heart during the tough times.

    Thank you.

On my best days I can manage to be the Yes Mom. I’m trying to make it a regular habit! At least the not needing to be perfect part.
