Color him unimpressed.

Booksigning at Burkes

At Burke's, in Memphis, May 5

I have so much catching up to do on the book news front, I don’t know where to begin. With the book coming out on April 28? With the four (out of four) star People magazine review the same day? With the chapter excerpted in this month’s (June) issue of Good Housekeeping? With the girlfriends-escapade to Memphis for my very first booksigning? Or the incredible turnout for the hometown launch here in Little Rock last Saturday?

Just attempting a list makes me dizzy.

I’m having the most wonderful time. But in case any of you are worried about me losing touch with the everyday, ordinary life I’ve written about for the past five years, you’ll be reassured to know my children are making sure I keep it all in perspective. Just yesterday morning, my ten-year-old peered over my shoulder as I read a profile about me in the newspaper.

“Can I see that when you’re done, Mom?”

“Of course,” I said, touched that he wanted to keep up with my press clippings. “You can read the whole article.”

“No,” he said. “I meant the comics.”

I am so disappointed that I missed your signing in Memphis! I live just a neighborhood away from Burke’s. I am thoroughly enjoying the book…spent all day yesterday with it. Congrats on a job well done. Perhaps I can meet you at a signing for your second book…:)

I thought for sure this was going to be about your other unimpressed child, who couldn’t care less that you were signing books on top of the table that he was curled up under, clicking away on his iPod.

Excited for you, lady. And I LOVE that photo of you.
